12th June 2008 - Website Update

Finally found some spare time to update the site & upload some more content, over the coming weeks I'll be adding more info & pictures plus links to my other websites (photo gallery etc)

November 2007 - Laser Eye Surgery

Well I finally bit the bullet & had my eyes Lasik lasered to remove my Mr Magoo impression.....not many people were aware I used to have high index lenses in my glasses so my actual glass lenses would have been FOUR times thicker if they were not high index !
I went to Optimax in Manchester & from initial consultation to the current aftercare I have found them to be very professional.
I also got a fantastic rate on the actual procedure. I placed an initial deposit less than £100 then had the rest on 0% finance plus I got a big discount by mentioning a friend who had also had the same procedure with Optimax (Thanks Shelley) :-)

Does it hurt? Well actually no it does not. The procedure itself is the MOST surreal experience I can recall without the aid of alcohol. Your fully conscious & alert during the whole procedure but the local anaesthetic they administer onto the eyes as drops are outstanding. You WILL smell burning but this is NOT, repeat NOT your eyes - it's the actual ozone in the air between the laser & the surface of your eye that's being burnt as the laser is in operation.

I only had slight discomfort (like very mild hay fever) on the way home on the train but thanks to Becky I was well looked after. I did experience slight discomfort due to light sensitivity on the train even though I was wearing dark sunglasses. When I arrived home I followed the surgeons excellent instructions & lay down in a darkened room then went to sleep for a few hours.

I awoke felling much better in terms of sensitivity but had very slight discomfort due to the pressure rings on my eyes where the surgical cone had been clamped to my eye with minimal air pressure. I know it may sound gross but believe me you don't feel a thing & the discomfort is mainly due to blood vessels that are in the sub-surface of the eye reacting to the cone being clamped to the outer surface. The eye drops prescribed did the trick & the discomfort soon wears off after the drops have been administered.

The next morning was one the best emotional moments in my life as for the first time as far as I could recall I could look out into my rear garden & see with absolute 100% clarity the trees at the bottom of the garden, unaided by prescription glasses or contact lenses. I had tears of joy in my eyes but a HUGE smile on my face.

For a few weeks later I did think my night vision was poor but I expected too much too soon. Once the flap had fully sealed & the tissue fused back together (don't forget we are talking about a highly precise cut made by a laser that is less than the width of a human hair) I had haze free night vision :-)

Would I do it gain - I'm not entirely sure as the procedure only lasts ten years as the eyes naturally weaken due to age but it has given me lots more freedom as well as enabling me to use only one set of sunglasses!
